Thin-crust Italian pizza at Nook on Denman St. This is the best in Vancouver.
Had a great skirt steak a month ago at the Irish Heather on Carrall St. in Gastown. This used to be a traditional Irish pub, now moved across the street to more modern, 'urban' digs. Excellent menu, especially for a bar. Also a huge selection of whiskies and the best-poured Guinness in town.
Several good French bistros have opened up in the past few years - such as Bistrot on 4th, Jules in Gastown and Au Petit Chavignol on East Hastings.
Oyama Sausage in the Granville Island market has a great selection of pate's, cured meats and sausage, most made on the premises. Some of the best restaurants in Vancouver buy meats here. Also a good selection of cheese. Great for picnic goodies.
Lots of interesting-looking Asian noodle joints on Robson (past the glitzy part, on the hill down toward Denman). I've been meaning to check out some of these places, many Korean and popular with students.
Vietnamese Bahn Mi sandwiches. Lots of places serve these, which if you haven't tried them are really tasty. Cheap, too, usually. I usually go to Ba-Le Sandwich Shop in a little strip mall at the intersection of Kingsway and Fraser. Worth the trip to be sure.
Almost too much to choose from in this town lately.
Have fun in Vancouver, Sam. While you're here, get your book into the local bookstores. I had to go to Bellingham to find it.
BTW, what was the dim sum place you went to? I didn't recognize it - I usually go to Sun Sui Wah on Main (great seafood) or the Pink Pearl on E. Hastings.
and Sam is busy as ever!! We're busy shooting all new shows and wrapping up season 6! We've shot over 140 shows now...wow!! Check out Egg Day 2, airing now on Cox Channel 4 SD. Did you know April in National Grilled Cheese month? In honor of that, the next show is Grilled Cheese Day; and it's really good! Sam really spices up the pain old grilled cheese with some awesome twists. It debuts Sunday 4/15 @ 6 and 8pm on Cox Channel 4.
Sam's new shows debut every other Sunday at 6 and 8pm (4/15 is the next debut). Other shows replay week nights at 6 and 10pm only on Channel 4 SD!! (Set your DVR & never miss the fun!)
Have you seen Sam's new Livecast? The Sam Livecast is a cross between a radio talk show and a TV cooking show…if they we’re politically incorrect and irreverent. It’s live at www.thesamlivecast.com Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at 6PM Pacific time. Check it out!!
And as always, for recipes, classes and all things Sam...visit his website for all the info!! www.thecookingguy.com
Welcome to the blog!
Thanks for stopping by the blog. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Michelle and I produce the show. I've had the privilege to work on the show since episode #2 back in 2006....and now we've shot 141 shows & are in our 6th season! As most of you can imagine a lot of funny and random stuff happens behind the scenes, and luckily our camera is rolling for most of it. Sadly, it's only a half-hour show, so we can't always air everything.....so here it is...Enjoy!
