San Diego County Fair- June 12th

It's finally summer, and in San Diego that means one thing....TIME FOR THE FAIR! 

Let me start by saying, I'm still not used to calling it "The San Diego County Fair"....I've grown up in San Diego and it's always been "The Del Mar Fair"....why did they have to change it?  It's almost as weird as when Jack Murphy became Qualcom!

Anyway.....

I just wanted to let you all know that we will be taping our new show @ the SD County Fair on Opening Day, Friday, June 12th.  We have no formal location, just wandering around and cooking at some of the food vendors.  So, if you plan on coming to the fair, stop by and say hello!

Grilled Lamb Kebobs

Some of you have asked for the Lamb Kebob recipe from Sunday's New Backyard show, so here it is.....enjoy!

SAM'S GRILLED LAMB KEBOBS

*makes 6

Ingredients

-1 pound lamb

- Salt & pepper

-Cumin

-Olive oil

-6 slices of Pita bread

-1 cup plain yogurt, Greek style if possible

- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh mint

- Zest of one lime

-1 large tomato, diced

-1/2 red onion, diced

Steps

1. Combine yogurt, mint and lime zest- set aside.

2. Heat grill to medium high.

3. Season lamb with salt, pepper and cumin.  Then mold into hot dog shape around the top half of         the skewers.

4. Brush lightly with oil, and grill until cooked through.

5. As they cook, combine tomatoes and onion-set aside.

6. Warm Pitas on grill. 

7. To serve, spread some yogurt sauce on a pita, add a lamb kebab and top with tomatoes & onion.

Sam overheats & blames me....typical

We shot the show that airs on Sunday, New Backyard Day on basically the hottest day of the year thus far.  It was seriously like 102 degrees in North County & like 105 degrees inland. Anyways, we shot outside that day and Sam was complaining the entire day about the heat...which you'll see in the show.  Here's a quick look at the end of the shoot, Sam harassing me like usual....got to love him!  

You voted...you got it!!!

Thanks to all of you who voted on which Sam show you wanted to see next.  Avocado Day won out with 39% of the votes...beating Sushi Day in second, followed by Sam's Favorites in 3rd & Italian Day came in 4th. 

We shot our next show, Avocado Day last week at a local avocado farm.  Sam got some "Avo" one on one and cooked some of his favorite avocado recipes outside.  Wait until you see the view, it was truly spectacular! 

Avocado Day debuts Sunday June 7th @ 5:30 & 7pm on channel 4 & 704.

So what did you think of the USS Reagan show? We would love to hear your question & comments about the show.  So far it seems to be a hit! I have to say thanks again to all the men and women aboard the Reagan for all the amazing hospitality and hard work.  Sam, Shannon and I really had a fantastic time.  They all deserve a huge shout out! 

*Side note:  Emmy nominations are being announced tonight, so keep your fingers crossed!
